The end of an error is coming...and a new one is starting. Amazing how the damn electorate switches one dumb ass for another. Americans get EXACTLY what they deserve by voting for clueless halfwits with no sense of urgency.
So now that Dumbya rides off into the sunset over in Highland Park, we are forced to watch Michelle Obama unleash her piss-poor attitude on the nation. And oh yeah, watch her stoopid husband become president. Maybe during his time before he goes in and finishes off the country, he can learn that we have FIFTY states and the Great Lakes are in Michigan.
Oh yeah. Happy 2009. Not much to look forward to. Ugh.

Happy Holidays
For those of you still checking in from time to time I want to wish you and yours a happy holiday season. It's been 3 months since my last rant/posting. I hope to get going again in 2009...providing life doesn't get TOO crazy. I figure there will be a lot to bitch about with Obama and the Democratic version of George W Bush taking over.
Peace, love and disco forever.

Pigs In A Poke
All this talk of pigs and lipstick and blah blah blah.
Meanwhile:
We here in Texas are getting ready for a possible Category 4 storm to kick the shit out of our refineries in the Houston/CC/Galveston area, oh and all those pesky 1+ million citizens who are having to be evacuated.
Dovetails into the failure of addressing the huge concern of global warming by either party.
Military leaders are saying we are failing in Afghanistan. For the record, the Russians and the British got their asses soundly kicked there, after depleting their treasuries and losing thousands of lives. America, if you feel like learning look at the military failures of these two comparable countries!
So while the campaigns try to figure out who has the bigger outrage manufacturing machine, we here in the electorate are trying to figure out how we are going to make our mortgage, keep up with rising insurance premiums, keep the lights on and keep food on the table.
All this ridiculousness just lends credence to the fact that we are truly devoid of leadership this election cycle. The one person who could have provided REAL leadership was ran off the Democratic reservation.
November 5th will certainly be a day of reckoning.

Sarah Palin's Speech
Governor Palin spoke last night at the RNC. According to number of pundits in the media, she had a helluva speech. The right wing blogosphere lit up like a roman candle.
I heard the speech. It sounded good. I can always appreciate a good speech. What's more telling is the response from the Obama campaign:
The speech that Governor Palin gave was well delivered, but it was written by George Bush's speechwriter and sounds exactly like the same divisive, partisan attacks we've heard from George Bush for the last eight years. If Governor Palin and John McCain want to define 'change' as voting with George Bush 90% of the time, that's their choice, but we don't think the American people are ready to take a 10% chance on change."
The republicans went after the Dems full-throttle. The response should have been above-board, focused on issues and paint a completely different picture than what the R's offer. Here's what I posted on another blog as a response to the speech, had I been a representative/spokesperson for the Obama campaign:
"Governor Palin's stark level of enthusiasm is matched only by the stark realities of the failed policies she and McCain embrace. Those policies have lead us to where we are today in America with regard to the poor state of our economy, health care and crumbling infrastructure. In the coming days, our campaign will highlight the way we differ from our worthy opponents in ways that will benefit all Americans, not the type of policies McCain and Palin espouse that benefit the few, as we have seen for the past 8 years."
This is the danger of being post-partisan and seeking unity/across the aisle type of tactics... it gets harder for someone like Obama to make an attack on policy because it goes against his "new politics" theme.
Too bad.

Sarah Palin: Deal Or No Deal?
Tonight, McCain running mate and Alaska governor Sarah Palin will speak before the Republican National Convention, and, the country tonight.
Her speech should be a real barn burner. Seems like Governor Palin has made quite an impact on the presidential race. Lots of firsts: first Black candidate representing the Democratic party and a woman, running as vice-president of the GOP.
If anything, and I use the term LOOSELY, we have made some headway with respect to minorities and women running for hire office. I know for some of you there is more at stake than "identity politics", but it does make for good theater in the political world.
It will be interesting to see how Palin handles herself, considering all the 'controversy' regarding her seventeen year-old, pregnant daughter. Word is that her daughter's baby daddy will be on stage for the big family wave moment.
Hmmm, I wonder how the press would react if Chelsea was pregnant right now, being single and all? It would be end times. Can you imagine if she were SEVENTEEN and were pregnant?
My, my how the tables have turned. Progressives, reel yourselves in. You are playing right into their trap by demonizing this woman and her family.

HIV and AIDS in the Black community
I admit it. I am the worst at reading the local paper. Mainly because their human interest stories are usually boring and aimed at the upper echelons of our society here in Fort Worth.
Reason why I admit about my paper-reading deficiency, is because I have had the front page of a Sunday paper in my car for about a month regarding a story about HIV and AIDS in the black community-specifically women.
The article in question is called "Ladies of Distinction", a hodge-podge of black women who have formed a support group here in Fort Worth to lean on each other for advice, friendship and acceptance.
The 'hook' of the story for me was the photo: it shows two black women in an embrace with one of the women displaying emotional anguish. I can SOOO relate to this. Back in 1990, I was volunteering at the AIDS Resource Center. I was just 22. I was just dealing with my own sexuality and the whole coming out process. Luckily my aunt Josie, who, was my staunchest advocate and supporter, stood by me through this, when I was so afraid to tell my family. In my quest to learn more about AIDS and HIV (in my ignorance at the time I didn't know the difference between the two), I went to volunteer.
On AIDS Day 1990, I was at the food pantry passing out food to the center's clients. This black woman was there and she had on her AIDS ribbon, as we all did. Me being the ostentatious type, I had put glitter on mine. She saw my ribbon and remarked how beautiful it was. She was so sweet. I asked her if she wanted it. I didn't care because it was just a ribbon that I fashioned into the now-recognizable symbol with a buncha glitter I had glued on. She was like "Oh wow can I?!" We got to talking after we exchanged ribbons. She told me how she felt like she had SOME kindred feelings being at the AIDS Outreach Center. She was a woman in her early to mid-thirties. She also told me that no one ever hugged her anymore since she had tested positive for HIV: not her 17 year-old son, her mom, her sisters. I instinctively wrapped my arms around her so tight and kissed her on her cheek. Tears streamed down her face and she just said, "no one hugs me anymore." That photo cut right through me. It brought tears to my face.
The picture on the front page of the paper made me think of that moment 18 years ago.
Fuck. We haven't moved a FUCKING inch with regard to the stigma of HIV and AIDS. There are FRIGHTENING alarming rates of HIV and AIDS infection in the black community. From drug users, black men on the "down low" and the limited amount of available, single black men, black women are becoming the fastest growing demographic that is becoming infected. The need for groups like Ladies of Distinction is essential. I laud these women coming together for each other and to address their needs and start empowering themselves.
If you are interested in reading more about this and other stories about HIV and AIDS in this community, check out: http://star-telegram/hiv I would find it hard to believe that this sad epidemic of health and heart are relegated to just my city. The harsh reality is that its taking its toll all over the world.
ACT Up! Silence=Death. Fight AIDS not people with AIDS!

Hurricanes And Other Blow Hards
Tonight a lot of us are watching the news and hoping that the Gulf coast will be spared any catastrophic damage that Hurricane Gustav may bring. According to the last numbers I saw, almost 2 million people have left the Gulf coast. About 4500 of them are coming here to Fort Worth to six area shelters.
I plan to stop by the one closest to my house, the Wilkerson Greines one, where I worked during Hurricane Katrina to drop off cases of bottled water. Unbelievable that we are having to repeat this shit again. Between FEMA and Bush43, the poor citizens of NOLA and the surrounding areas had no choice. All those fucking republicans in charge down there don't give a shit. Not to mention the failings of the Army Corps of Engineers. I'll throw Ray Nagin in there too. He should be screaming for the state and the feds to get NO secured levees.
Another point of contention for me is that, well, since I failed to keep my blog current I lost a lot of my readers. I will work to get them back and possibly pick up a lot more. I am a dedicated progressive who stands for all things that help people live better lives and make choices that are good for them, WITHOUT the government putting their noses where it doesn't belong.
I had ventured to other blogs and found a lot of like-minded people there. Good strong progressive political junkies like myself. But after the primaries it is WAY to venomous. Now I shoot venom A LOT. But at the pols, not at other progressos. But since I have been accused of supporting Obama (I won't vote for him, and a LOT of people know that) and supporting McCain, which I WAS until their pro-life stance ran me off, I feel like I won't be going to any other blogs any time soon.
Hell I had a lot of people who used to email me..."where are you?" "you need to blog"...well, I will. No more going to bullshit sites and getting involved in all the too many chiefs not enough Indians syndrome, having my credentials or my loyalties questioned....naw fuck that. I explain myself to no one and I keep my own counsel.
So I am back. So Fade, MsABC Mom, Pissed Off Patricia, Fighting Mad Chicana, Commodified Queer, Ziems, Donnie, Fuzzy, Peacechick, Texas Oasis, I will be looking for you again to rebuild our little community we had that was thriving and we were all supportive of each other....not accusing one another about our liberal and progressive ideals.
